Itinerary
Day 1: Tambomachay – Pukapukara – Qenqo – Saqsayhuaman
For this day “In the heights of Cusco” there are 2 proposals:
- The first is done on foot from one place to another, not including lunch at the homestay. Departure at 8 am and return to Cusco around 2 pm.
- The second is done by private vehicle from site to site, with lunch at the family home at noon. Departure at 8 am and return to Cusco around 3 pm.
For the 2 proposals the sites visited are identical, the departure time too and transportation is always included from Cusco to Tambomachay.
It is around 8 am that we leave Cusco to arrive at the first site we will visit, Tambomachay, and then discover this spectacular network of Inca ruins that dominates the city.
Tambomachay, known for its canals and waterfalls, is a perfect illustration of the precision of Inca architects and hydraulic engineers. Then awaits us the Pukapukara archaeological site, next to reddish stones, which dominates the surrounding countryside. Then we will take a break in an Andean textile manufacturing workshop. You will then have the opportunity to discover the secrets of the different wools and colors of the region.
The next site is Qenqo, labyrinth in Quechua, due to the multiple channels that run in zigzag. It was a site dedicated to its creator, Pachacutec. Finally, the site of Saqsayhuaman awaits us, impressive for the size of its building stones; some are almost 6 meters high and are assembled without mortar, in the purest Inca style. At this site, the festival of Inti Raymi or the festival of the Sun, takes place every year on June 24.
After this immersion in history, we suggest you continue on foot to reach the city of Cusco enjoying the scenery.
