Itinerary
Day 1: From Cusco to Chinchero, Moray and Salt Mines of Maras
We depart in a tourist vehicle toward the Sacred Valley of the Incas to discover some of the most fascinating landscapes and archaeological sites in the region. Our first stop will be the traditional village of, well known for preserving ancient Andean and textile traditions. We will visit a local weaving community center where local families will demonstrate ancestral techniques used to create colorful textiles with natural dyes extracted from plants and minerals. There will also be time to explore the archaeological site and admire its colonial church built on top of Inca foundations.
We then continue to, an impressive archaeological complex formed by enormous concentric circular terraces. This site is considered an ancient Inca agricultural laboratory, where different microclimates were recreated to experiment with a variety of Andean crops. From here, we will also enjoy spectacular views of the Andes Mountains and the Sacred Valley landscape.
Next, we head to the famous, located on the side of a mountain. These salt ponds, used since pre-Inca times, consist of thousands of small pools fed by a natural salty spring. To this day, many local families continue to work these terraces using traditional methods, producing salt for markets throughout the region.
